Evaluation and Social Research

We conduct project-based evaluation and research projects for clients in the government and non-government sectors. Subtext advocates a participatory design approach that provides an improvement-oriented assessment of a project rather than a ‘point-in-time’ measure of success. We draw on a variety of robust techniques to identify the strengths of projects and explore opportunities for improvement. We work with both qualitative and quantitative techniques, including surveys and questionnaires, focus groups and individual interviews, ideas festivals, and case studies. We increasingly use the Most Significant Change Technique to help organisations to develop an evidence base for their work.

Recent examples of our work:

Interagency Infant Mental Health Network (Mater Hospital) – evaluation of the network, and support in the documentation and further development of this model for potential replication throughout Australia.

Mission Australia – evaluation of the Inala to Goodna Communities for Children initiative. The three-year evaluation project included evaluation design, mentoring of project workers in the development of evaluation tools, assistance in data collection and analysis, and assistance with report writing. This project was highly collaborative, and focused on building the capacity of workers to undertake evaluation activities beyond the life of the project.
